49 startups applied
6 finalists on stage
€100k first prize
150 investors in the room

On 11 June 2026, at Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, Marine Weather Intelligence took home first prize at the third edition of the Equity Challenge — the leading fundraising competition in western France, organised by the Business Angels 35 network. Out of 49 applicants, six startups had been selected to pitch that evening before 150 investors, business angels and entrepreneurial ecosystem professionals.

Marine Weather Intelligence came out on top, securing a €100,000 investment committed through a single vehicle — a signal of strong, long-term conviction from the investors. Beyond the amount, it is the recognition that matters most: the business angels named the Morbihan-based deeptech one of the most promising startups in Brittany.

Founded in Auray in 2023, Marine Weather Intelligence brings the precision of offshore racing meteorology to professional maritime operations. The company serves commercial shipping, towage and heavy transport operators — a segment that now accounts for roughly half of its activity. Its purpose: give captains and fleet managers clear, reliable tools to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 % and anticipate extreme weather events before they become costly incidents.

Founded by Christian Dumard, a meteorologist and routing expert with thirty years of ocean racing experience, and Basile Rochut, a specialist in artificial intelligence, Marine Weather Intelligence transforms complex weather data into clear, actionable decisions — offering real-time support and personalised weather alerts that help crews navigate efficiently and safely.

A track record that speaks for itself

This first prize does not come in isolation. Marine Weather Intelligence was laureate of Ifremer’s Octo’pousse innovation competition in 2023 — an 18-month programme worth €250,000, after which Ifremer took a 10 % stake in the company. It won the Crisalide Eco-activities 2024 prize in the Decarbonised Mobility category, was selected for the Blue Tech Index by the Cluster Maritime Français among France’s 40 most promising maritime startups, and served as official weather consultant for the Vendée Globe 2024.

On the R&D front, the company completed an ESA Kick-Start feasibility study on HWZSea — a satellite-based maritime early-warning concept designed to help vessels anticipate sudden, high-impact weather events. It has also developed a proprietary methodology for detecting and mapping weather fronts at sea, tested during the Vendée Globe 2024, and is building a rigorous model qualification framework to ensure every routing recommendation rests on the most reliable forecast data available.

Next milestone: Series A

The Equity Challenge win comes as Marine Weather Intelligence prepares a €3 million Series A fundraise. The ambition: grow from around fifteen to fifty employees by 2027, with hires planned across Asia and North America to deliver 24/7 service continuity to clients worldwide.

For a company with global ambitions, this prize is an encouraging milestone — and a collective one.
